比較級を用いた表現【受験生必見！！】

今回は比較級を用いた表現を説明していこうと

思います。

・比較級や最上級を強調する語

「ずっと～」「はるかに～」というように比較級や最上級を強調するとき、

much / (by) far / still / even / a lot

を比較級の前に置きます。

ex) His car is much more expensive than his friends.

　「彼の自動車は友達よりもはるかに高いです。」

ex) This novel is even better than his one.

　「この小説は彼のよりもさらに良い。」

ex) She is by far the most famous singer among the young.

　「彼女は若者の間でずば抜けて有名な歌手です。」

・A less + 原級 + than B

　「AはBほど～ない」

　＝A not so + 原級 + as B

この構文は A<B の関係が成り立ちます。

ex) This question is less complicated than that one.

　「この問題はあの問題ほど複雑ではない。」

=This question is not so complicated as that one.

ex) This flower is less beautiful than that one.

　「この花はあの花ほど美しくはない。」

= This flower is not so beautiful as that one.

・more A(原級) than B(原級)

　「BよりはむしろA」

　＝ A rather than B

同一人物や物事のもつ、２つの異なる性質・状態を比較するときに

用いる構文である。

ex) She is more beautiful than cute.

　「彼女は可愛いというよりも美しい。」

・the + 比較級 + of the two 

　「２つ (２人) の中でより～」

ex) Kevin is the faster of the two boys.

　「ケビンは２人の少年のうち足の速い方だ。」
